IMAP for PHP on Debian
Maybe a poor soul with the same problem will Google for the error message and find this entry.
Been trying to find a web based email client that uses IMAP written in PHP. I'd use Squirrelmail, but apparently it does some stuff that PHP5 doesn't like. At all. If I can't find one, I'll write my own. But I found a few half-baked clients that use the imap_*() functions in PHP.
However, when I enable extension=imap.so, I always get /usr/sbin/apache: relocation error: /usr/local/lib/php/20040718/imap.so: undefined symbol: ssl_onceonlyinit.
I googled for it, and found this article. It's in German, but essentially it says to try installed libc-client-ssl2001. So I went ahead and did apt-get install libc-client-ssl2001-dev anticipating that I'd have to recompile PHP. But I didn't. It installed the two packages, I restarted Apache and that was that. Cool deal.

PHP 5.0.2
Earlier I saw that PHP 5.0.2 is available. PHP 5.0.1 didn't fix any of our problems. I skipped this one and went straight to PHP 5.1.0-CVS, which I tested on our dev server. Recompiled PHP5, restarted Apache, and so far it looks solid. Very nice. That means that we can hopefully migrate our software to PHP5. Exceptions, Iterators, here we come.

We lost
Whoops, we lost our match. Yeah, big surprise there. We didn't do too well in the beginning, and were the first one to cap the flag (thanks to your's truly). However, we're lacking heavy drivers. The guys we played had a few heavy offense players, and they made it pretty hard for us in the long run. Tribes: Vengeance also doesn't have quite the same feel — but the grappling hook is so cool — If you know how to use it well, anyway.

Tribes match coming up
We have a Tribes match coming up tonight at 9:30. I don't think we're expecting to win this one, given that we haven't practiced at all. As we all get older, we seem to have less and less time to actually spend in front of a computer playing some game. Most of us were in our 20s when we started in '99. We're now approaching or have reached 30 and priorities really start to shift. And as past experience has shown a loss will probably drive people away, so who knows whether this will actually be a long term thing.

Tribes: Vengeance beta
Been playing the beta for quite some time now. As of the fileplanet subscriber-only "Open Beta" the flag can no longer be picked up from the field with the grappling hook. Hopefully they will still change that. The Tribe I run (or at least partially manage) is coming together nicely. Hard to imagine that the same people that played Tribes 1 with us in 1999 are still around. So much time wasted.
